Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack

Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack review

In general, many people do not consider cheap and low-cost items to be very good. But this opinion is not correct in the case of Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack. Although you might not be convinced, the fact is that the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack is affordable as well as definitely worth it and the best durable travel backpack. However, you cannot fit it under your seat.

Still, if you are short on budget, you can make this backpack your companion in your next trip, because the quality of this backpack cannot be ignored due to its low price.

Because many of us are by no means expecting it to be the best travel bag. However, if you are looking for a good and durable travel bag to save costs, Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack can be an interesting option. Let’s try to find out, if it can really be worth carrying your stuff.

The weight and comfort of the Amazon Basics carry-on travel backpack

The Amazon Basics bag weighs a little over 3 lbs. In terms of comfort, the Amazon Basics travel backpack has a bit more cushioning in the backpack straps, and it adds cushioning along the entire length of the backpack resting on your back. Amazon Basics uses the same nylon that covers the entire bag on its handles, and you can feel the plastic material underneath the handles.

The bag has adjustable sternum straps, and simple nylon straps that can be attached to the bottom to be used as a waist strap. With slightly more cushioned/padded backpack straps, and a cushion along the length of the part of the bag that rests on your back, the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack is slightly more comfortable to wear.

The materials that make up the backpack and its aesthetics

The Amazon Basics Travel Backpack is not as aesthetically pleasing as many other backpacks on the market. Because it only comes in three colors. One is black, the other is navy blue and the third is red. However, these three colors are not so bad. How you view the Amazon Basics Travel Backpack is up to you, because you may find it as beautiful as I do.

Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack

Logos are minimal in terms of branding on this basic carry-on travel bag. The most obvious logo is on the bottom of the pack, plus some smaller logos on the zip pull.

As for overall size, regardless of whether the bag is at full capacity or not, it’s huge and gets “bulkier” the more you pack it. There is nothing flashy about this package and even if you try to pack it efficiently, the items still look out of the package.

Amazon Basics is made of 100% polyester. It is not uncommon, although it is a common material used in backpacks because it is lightweight, flexible, and durable. But there are definitely lighter and more durable materials. Polyester also means the pack is not weather resistant.

A reliable and quite reliable brand; The rest are unmarked. While all zippers open and close easily, durability is an issue.

A cheap bag made of cheap materials and we really didn’t expect much from it. While the broken zip pull is a bummer, it hasn’t affected the overall integrity of the bag, and it’s really the only thing we could ask for at this price.

Amazon Basics carry-on travel backpack describes the material used as “sustainable polyester.” (Amazon Basics uses a simple method of having a separate piece of material that is sewn on. Amazon Basics uses a strong and standard zipper, but not as good as YKK. I saw Amazon Basics bags here and There were some loose threads, and somewhat sloppy stitching/finishing. It hasn’t affected the overall integrity of the bag, and it’s really the only thing we could ask for at this price point.

What are the external components?

The adjustable shoulder straps are a bit light but well padded with poly foam, making for a surprisingly comfortable carry. The back panel is padded, as are the shoulder straps, but our problem is under the back panel. If you’re just carrying a heavy item that sits at the bottom of your bag, it’s going to dig into your lower back, which isn’t ideal. That said, we’ve found that this isn’t much of an issue when the bag is fully loaded and the weight is distributed around.

Additionally, there is an adjustable sternum strap that unfortunately cannot be removed or hidden. It’s a bit annoying because it always hangs when it’s not closed, but otherwise it’s “fine”. The pack also comes with a hip belt, but it’s pretty flimsy and doesn’t really help distribute the weight of the pack. However, it is detachable, so you can take it off if you don’t want to use it.

If you prefer to carry your bag messenger style instead of on your back, the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack comes with a strap attachment so you can do that too.

The Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack has two quick-grab handles on the top and right side. They are not the best and are quite lacking in the comfort department.

There are compression straps on either side of the pack that can be used to attach a jacket or tripod as well as compress the pack. These cover the zippers a bit, but that’s a common situation we’ve seen on many other packs.

Finally, we should also mention that there is no water bottle pocket. Not a big problem. But we’re missing the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel backpack.

What’s inside the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack?

Let’s talk about the front pocket. The Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack comes in handy. This pocket is quite deep so if you don’t place your little one properly in this pocket, quick access to them will be difficult. Access to what’s held in this pocket isn’t as “instant” as we’d like, but it’s still a great place to keep your passport and other travel essentials.

The front compartment of the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Bag is very convenient, and we’ve found it works well for all of our tech gear. Also, there is plenty of room for a sweater if needed.

The Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack has two sleeves at the top that are ideal for notepads or other similar items, with a pair of pencil holders in between. It has two large mesh pockets on the bottom that are the perfect size for a keyboard, but are extremely versatile and can hold whatever you want inside. Finally, there is a cover on the flap of this compartment. We struggled to use the space, but it’s there if you need it.

Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack

The Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack has a main compartment design that opens up a bit like a suitcase, making it very easy to pack. On the left side is a large mesh compartment that we use to hold the hip belt and messenger strap when not in use. Then to your right is a large space cube to fill. There are two internal compression straps that can help keep everything together, but we recommend using packing cubes to further organize and compartmentalize the space.

The main compartment of the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack can also be expanded using external compression zippers on the sides of the pack. This will add about 2 inches of depth to the pack, which means you can fit more stuff.

Finally, the back of the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack has a large compartment that can hold a 17-inch laptop. There’s plenty of padding and tons of space, but it can be a bit tricky because anything you put in here will start to bloat.

Durability and its stitching

At the end of this review, I can tell you that the Amazon Basics Carry-On Travel Backpack is the perfect bag for traveling across Europe. However, it has some durability issues and is a cause for concern.

The first issue that needs to be mentioned here is zips. It has some weak zips which got damaged while packing the bag.

Also, there are a lot of loose threads around the bag and not a good sign of things to come.

  • Great design with large storage capacity and plenty of pockets/compartments for organization
  • Comfortable shoulder straps and back pillow
  • Comes with a shoulder strap, waist strap, sternum strap, backpack strap (removable) and two handles to allow multiple ways of easy carrying.
  • Includes an internal padded laptop storage compartment placed near the back (ideal design for weight distribution)
  • Contains zippered expandable storage (unzip the bag to expand it a bit, or keep the zip to keep the bag more compact)
  • Carry on size!

  • It does not include a water bottle holder or key ring clip
  • Some loose threading here and there, and minor quality issues
